Soracom Beam now supports custom hosts for migrating to Google Cloud IoT Core-compatible services

As previously announced by Google, the Google Cloud IoT Core service is scheduled to be retired on August 16, 2023.

For customers using the Soracom Beam MQTT entry point to connect devices to Google Cloud IoT Core, Beam now allows you to configure a custom destination host:

With this update, customers can transition their devices to a different Google Cloud IoT Core-compatible service, without the need to modify device configurations, by simply updating their current Beam MQTT entry point configuration with a custom destination host. Soracom has verified the functionality of transitioning to ClearBlade, one of Google's technology partners which provides a Google Cloud IoT Core-compatible service, through updating the Beam configuration.

There are no changes to Soracom Beam pricing with this update.

Please refer to the Google Cloud IoT Core site for additional guidance on transitioning to other technology or implementation partners.

SoraCam Cloud Motion Detection Unlimited Recording License now available

We are pleased to announce availability of a new Cloud Motion Detection Unlimited Recording License for Soracom Cloud Camera Services (SoraCam).

The current Cloud Always Recording License allows SoraCam devices to send all recorded video clips to the cloud and store them for 7, 14, or 30 days depending on license option.

With this new license option, SoraCam devices will be able to take advantage of motion detection recording capabilities to send only the videos where motion is detected, with no limit for the duration of each video clip (when using motion detection recording without a license, each video will be limited to 12 seconds).

Since this new license enables uploading videos to the cloud only when motion is detected, you can:

  • Minimize Wi-Fi or other network congestion due to continuously uploading video data
  • Reduce the amount of data needed to upload and store important video data

Moreover, as uploaded videos are stored as separate clips, it greatly improves the ability to quickly review the motion that was detected in each clip.

The Cloud Motion Detection Unlimited Recording License similarly has several options that allow you to store uploaded videos for 7, 14, or 30 days.

For more information, please refer to the Soracom Cloud Camera Services page (Japanese).

Service degradation for plan01s with Telia Denmark

We are experiencing a service degradation on Telia Denmark. Devices that are configured to connect to this network with a plan01s IoT SIM may have difficulty attaching. Other networks in Denmark (3 Denmark, TDC, and Telenor Denmark) are working normally, and we are closely monitoring devices as they transition to other available networks.

If your devices are not configured to automatically reconnect to another available network, you may need to manually perform a power-cycle in order to resume network connectivity.

We are actively working with our network partner to re-establish service. We will keep you updated about any further information.

SIM ID added to List SIMs in Order CSV

When viewing your order history from the Orders screen of the User Console, you can view and download the list of SIMs included in each order as a CSV file.

With this update, the SIM ID has been added as the first column in this CSV.

The SIM ID is a number that uniquely identifies each physical Soracom IoT SIM, and is widely used throughout the Soracom platform to manage each SIM and perform various actions with the Sim API, getAirStatsOfSim API, and other Soracom APIs that use the SIM ID.

The SIM ID for most IoT SIMs will correspond to the SIM's 19-digit ICCID number. However, for eUICC-compatible SIMs, the SIM ID will correspond to the SIM's 32-digit EICCID number. Without knowing the SIM ID, you previously had to find an eUICC-compatible SIM by its ICCID in order to get its EICCID, and then use the EICCID with the Soracom API.

By including the SIM ID in the CSV, you can now more easily manage eUICC-compatible IoT SIMs by using their 32-digit SIM ID directly, without having to first find the EICCID separately.

Improved Subscription Container interface

Subscription Containers are a feature of plan01s IoT SIMs which allow you to add extra subscription plans to the same physical SIM. These optional subscriptions allow you to unlock lower data rates in specific regions, or extend coverage to more countries and networks.

With this update, we have improved the user interface for adding subscriptions. Now when you add a subscription to an existing SIM, you will see a list of available subscriptions and will be able to compare their coverage and additional features.

To add a subscription, simply select a plan01s SIM from the SIM Management screen, then click Actions and select *Add subscription....

For more information, please refer to the Subscription Container documentation.

Please note: As part of this update, we have also moved the function for adding a Soracom Arc Virtual SIM to a new menu. If you would like to add a Virtual SIM to an existing physical SIM, select a SIM from the SIM Management screen, then click Actions and select *Add Virtual SIM.... For more information, please refer to the Soracom Arc documentation.
