Increased HTTP Keep-Alive timeout for Soracom Entry Points

When a device sends data to Soracom using HTTP, it may optionally specify a Connection: keep-alive directive in the HTTP request header in order to reuse the underlying TCP connection and reduce the reconnection data usage when sending additional HTTP requests.

Until now, the maximum HTTP Keep-Alive timeout supported by Soracom HTTP entry points has been 5 seconds. With this update, the maximum timeout will be increased to 65 seconds for the entry points belows. This change will allow Soracom Air for Cellular and Soracom Arc devices sending HTTP requests to these entry points at intervals shorter than 65 seconds to maintain the connection and reduce data usage.

Affected Entry Points

  • Soracom Beam HTTP Entry Point
  • Soracom Beam Website Entry Point
  • Soracom Funk HTTP Entry Point
  • Soracom Funnel HTTP Entry Point
  • Soracom Harvest Data/Files HTTP Entry Point
  • Unified Endpoint HTTP Entry Point

Effective Date

This update will be rolled out starting from November 5, 2024.

Please note that the effective date may change without prior notice.

Action Required

If your device cannot support the extended Keep-Alive timeout, we recommend disabling Keep-Alive by including the Connection: close directive in your HTTP request headers.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the Soracom Support team.

Revisions to Soracom Flux credit consumption and allocation

When using Flux AI Actions to send instructions or questions to an AI model, requests are managed using credits. For example, using the Amazon Bedrock Anthropic Claude 3 Haiku AI model consumes 1 credit per request.

Based on customer feedback and the pricing of each AI model, we will be revising the number of credits consumed and the number of credits allocated to the Flux Free Plan as follows.

Credit Consumption

For Flux AI Actions, the number of credits consumed per request will be revised as follows:

AI Action Model Before Revision After Revision
Amazon Bedrock Anthropic Claude 3 Haiku 1 credit 10 credits
Amazon Bedrock Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet 6 credits 120 credits
Amazon Bedrock Anthropic Claude 3 Opus 30 credits 600 credits
Google Gemini 1.5 Flash 1 credit 20 credits
Google Gemini 1.5 Pro 7 credits 150 credits
Azure OpenAI GPT-4o 10 credits 150 credits

Credit Allocation

Together with the revised credit consumption, the number of credits allocated to the Free Plan will also be revised as follows:

Flux Plan Before Revision After Revision
Free Plan 200 credits 2000 credits

For existing customers, the remaining credits as of the scheduled revision date (below) will be multiplied by 10.

For information on how to check your remaining credits, please refer to the View Flux Credits documentation.

Scheduled Revision Date

The above revision is scheduled to take effect on September 18, 2024.

Please note that the revision date and time are subject to change without notice. For any questions, please contact Soracom Support.

Custom Timestamps for Soracom Harvest Data now available

We are excited to announce that Soracom Harvest Data now supports using a time value from the device data as the timestamp for the data stored in Harvest Data.

Data sent from a device to Harvest Data is stored with a timestamp. By default, this timestamp is set according to the time that Harvest Data receives and stores the data. Until now, specifying a custom timestamp has only been possible by including an x-soracom-timestamp custom HTTP header when sending data to Harvest Data.

With this update, you can now configure Harvest Data to set this timestamp according to a time value provided in the device data. This feature allows you to accurately reflect the exact time when your device generated the data, rather than the time the data arrived and was stored by Harvest Data, in order to enable more precise time-series analysis and event tracking.

To utilize this feature, simply specify which JSON key in the data sent by your device contains the timestamp, as well as the timestamp format. For detailed instructions, please refer to the documentation.

Please note: Harvest Data will still support setting a custom timestamp using the x-soracom-timestamp HTTP header. If both the x-soracom-timestamp HTTP header and JSON key are utilized, the timestamp specified in the x-soracom-timestamp HTTP header will take precedence.
