New Delivered status for Subscription Containers

As previously announced, we have added a new delivered status to allow customers to better understand the progress of the over-the-air (OTA) update for Subscription Containers.

The new delivered status now provides the following additional details about the OTA update progress:

Status Description
shipped Soracom has prepared the subscription container and is waiting for your device to come online to start the OTA update, or Soracom has sent the OTA update and is waiting for the SIM to confirm its receipt.
delivered (new) The SIM has confirmed receiving the OTA update; Soracom is now waiting for the SIM to install the subscription container.
ready The SIM has confirmed that the subscription container was successfully installed, and your device can now use it.

For additional information, please refer to our previous announcement.

Impact of this update

If you have implemented a process to programmatically check the status of an OTA update as part of your application, please note that this update will also affect the following APIs:

  • Sim:listSims
  • Sim:getSim

These APIs will now also return the delivered status according to the OTA update progress. You may need to update your application in order to handle the new status accordingly.

New Delivered status for Subscription Containers

Subscription Containers are a feature available on certain Soracom IoT SIMs which allows you to add extra subscription plans to the same SIM for additional coverage and redundancy. When adding a subscription container to a SIM, the subscription plan is delivered using an over-the-air (OTA) update, with a status indicating the progress of the OTA update.

With this update, a new delivered status will be added in order to provide more details about the OTA update progress:

Status Description
shipped Soracom has prepared the subscription container and is waiting for your device to come online to start the OTA update, or Soracom has sent the OTA update and is waiting for the SIM to confirm its receipt.
delivered (new) The SIM has confirmed receiving the OTA update; Soracom is now waiting for the SIM to install the subscription container.
ready The SIM has confirmed that the subscription container was successfully installed, and your device can now use it.

Under normal network conditions, the status will quickly change from delivered to ready, indicating that the subscription container was successfully installed and is ready for use.

However, if your device has a weak signal or the OTA process is somehow interrupted, the status may get stuck in the delivered status, indicating that the installation has not yet completed and cannot be used by your device.

If the status remains delivered for more than 15 minutes, we recommend moving your device to a location with a stronger signal and rebooting the device to allow the SIM to retry the update.

Impact of this update

If you have implemented a process to programmatically check the status of an OTA update as part of your application, please note that this update will also affect the following APIs:

  • Sim:listSims
  • Sim:getSim

Once this update takes effect, these APIs will also return the delivered status according to the OTA update progress. You may need to update your application in order to handle the new status accordingly.

Effective date

This update is scheduled to take effect on December 18, 2023.

Please note that the effective date may change without prior notice.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the Soracom Support team.
