New IMEI Lock option to allow connections when IMEI is not reported
IMEI Lock is a standard feature of all Soracom SIMs that allows you to pair a SIM to a specific device based on the device's unique International Mobile Equipment Identifier (IMEI). When enabled, a SIM will only be allowed to connect to a network if the IMEI of the device it is used in matches its IMEI Lock setting. This allows you to effectively prevent unwanted usage charges in case the SIM is stolen and used in a different device.
However, in some cases, a local network might not report the IMEI of the device. Since the IMEI Lock feature strictly enforces IMEI matching, if the IMEI is not reported, Soracom will block the connection by default even if the device is correct, which may result in unexpected downtime.
With this update, the IMEI Lock feature now provides a new option to also allow network connections when a local network has not provided the device's IMEI. This can be used to ensure that a device can still connect to a network even if the network is not reporting the IMEI information, while still actively blocking connections when the IMEI is reported and does not match the IMEI Lock settings.
