planX3 Tokyo rendezvous point now available
The Soracom platform provides multiple rendezvous points as locations where Soracom Air for Cellular connects. Starting today, "Tokyo (Japan)" has been added as a rendezvous point for the planX3 subscription, bringing the total to the following two rendezvous points:
- Frankfurt (Germany)
- Tokyo (Japan)
For more information about rendezvous points, see the Rendezvous Points documentation.
The behavior of rendezvous points differs depending on whether the IoT SIM is attached to a Virtual Private Gateway (VPG).
When the IoT SIM is not attached to a Virtual Private Gateway (VPG)
When a planX3 IoT SIM is not attached to a VPG, the rendezvous point is determined automatically based on the IoT SIM's location as follows. Customers cannot select or change the rendezvous point.
- When the planX3 IoT SIM is located in Japan
- (Before) Frankfurt (Germany)
- (After) Tokyo (Japan)
- When the planX3 IoT SIM is located outside of Japan
- (No change) Frankfurt (Germany)
For details, see Rendezvous Points.
When the IoT SIM is attached to a Virtual Private Gateway (VPG)
When a planX3 IoT SIM is attached to a VPG, the rendezvous point used is determined by the rendezvous point setting of the VPG it is attached to. With this change, data communication is now available for planX3 IoT SIMs attached to VPGs whose rendezvous point is Tokyo (Japan), as follows:
- When attached to a VPG whose rendezvous point is Tokyo (Japan)
- (Before) Data communication is not available
- (After) Data communication is available (except when the IoT SIM is located in the United Kingdom, Germany, or France)
- When attached to a VPG whose rendezvous point is Frankfurt (Germany)
- (No change) Data communication is available
For details, see Rendezvous Points.
If you are using a VPG whose rendezvous point is Frankfurt (Germany), data communication will continue to use Frankfurt (Germany). To use Tokyo (Japan) for data communication, create a new VPG with the Tokyo (Japan) rendezvous point and switch the VPG that the IoT SIMs are attached to. For details, see Virtual Private Gateway and Using Soracom Air with a Virtual Private Gateway.
